About FMBCC

Our Story:

First Baptist Church of Chinquapin was founded in 1874. The first Pastor of the church was Rev. W. C. Cowan and we were blessed with some amazing leaders after him. Presently our Pastor is L.J. Manley. The first church was housed in a crude wooden building which later burned. A second wooden structure was erected in the same location. Bricks were later placed around this structure. Other additions to the outside of the building such things as a new dining room, a new pastor’s study, cement walkways around the church and a ramp with handrails to accommodate the older members as well as those who are in wheelchairs or disabled. Today, the church is a beautiful brick structure located beside of highway 50 South in the Chinquapin Community.

When we began with our church services, they were only held on the second Sunday of each month. During the 1950’s, it was decided that services should be held on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. This practice has continued until the present time in which a 5th Sunday has been added to our worship services. Our church is a Christian church that is governed by two ordinances. The Lord’s Supper and Baptism by Immersion are the ordinances that we adhere to. Believing in and realizing the importance of education to the African American people, our church donated a portion of its property to Duplin County so that a public school could be built.
